Madrid hosts one of the most fun and exciting pride events in Europe and throughout the world. Madrid Pride is 6 days of great events, concerts, activities and parties. It’s the largest gay pride celebration in Europe bringing in 1.5 million attendees.
The events start on Wednesday, July 1st with the evening opening ceremony in Plaza Chueca. Last year, Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst graced us with her presence to kick off the events. Pride is important to us for many reasons. We love to travel to new destinations and see how the local community celebrates. In many European cities, Pride has become a parade and celebration, while others in Eastern Europe or other parts of the world still demonstrate and fight for rights. Pride marches and events are important because they bring the LGBT community together with their allies to take a stand against discrimination, put a face to the cause, celebrate the progress that has been made and acknowledge the fight that still remains.
We acknowledge the important of pride in the fight for LGBT visibility, rights and acceptance. But we are also happy that we live in a city that is so progressive where you can be completely open and celebrate your diversity, no matter who you are. Madrid is one of the most liberal and gay capital cities in Europe and the pride is most definitely a celebration. And how better to celebrate than with a great line up of parties!
This year, we’ll be covering Madrid Pride and its infamous WE Party Festival – a series of 6 parties throughout the entire week. We’re not strangers to the WE Party – in fact, they host monthly parties in Madrid and they are some of the best and most popular. Without a doubt, our favorite Pride party is the WE Pool Party which takes place on Friday afternoon just before all the craziness of the pride parade starts the following day. If you’re planning on visiting or attending Madrid Pride, you just might want to check out one of these events.

Here’s the WE Pride Festival Schedule:
- Wednesday, July 1st: WElcome party by Forever Tel Aviv
- Thursday, July 2nd: Machina of Masterbeat
- Friday, July 3rd: PAPA Pool Party hosted by Eliad Cohen
- Friday, July 3rd: Matinee Pervert

Finally, another one of our favorite activities is to head out to the local pool on Sunday afternoon to soak up the sun and shake off the hangover…with a chilled glass of sangria, of course. The activity on Sunday is by no means official, but the public pool at Lago is packed with more gays this day than it ever sees. The pool is massive, there’s a restaurant and bar, plus plenty of nice grassy spots to lay out, get a tan and watch all the half drunk, half hungover Madrid pride hotties strutting around in their speedos.
